Shelley Henson is the Early Childhood Special Educator at the Shelburne Community School. She is also the part time Early Childhood Director for Champlain Valley School District (formerly Chittenden South) beginning in July 2017. She joined the VtAEYC board in January of 2017 and is a member of the quality committee. She is a former board member returning and in her previous board experience, she was the NAEYC Accreditation Facilitation Coordinator supporting programs throughout the state who were seeking accreditation.
Shelley is very interested in bridging the needs of children with special needs in their full time child care programs to help provide a flexible, least restrictive placement for families. She is working within the community programs in the district to support curriculum adaptations that reflect best practices of NAEYC and DEC.
Another focus for Shelley is tier 1 and 2 instruction in social emotional skills. Shelburne is one of the early MTSS sites and a graduate of the Early Childhood Leadership Institute through the Snelling Center, both programs offered with money from the Early Learning Challenge Grant.
Shelley lives in Hinesburg with her husband and has raised three daughters. She enjoys gardening, hiking, reading and traveling. She is currently in the CAGS program at Saint Michael’s College working on her administrative license.
