Meet VAEYC Board Member Melissa Scheffler

Melissa Scheffler has been in the early childhood profession in various capacities for twenty years. She has been interested in early education since she was twelve years old! She has been a preschool teacher, a family support and advocacy worker, a foster parent, a respite provider for young children, and most importantly according to her: a parent. She is currently the owner of a licensed family child care program in Bennington, VT. In addition to VAEYC, Melissa is a member of the Bennington County Child Care Association.

Melissa first became involved with VAEYC after attending her first Fall conference. She knew Kathi Apgar, the Past President of VAEYC at the time; Kathi got her excited about VAEYC and asked her to join the VAEYC Governing Board because of her advocacy work in Bennington.

Melissa has now been on the VAEYC Governing Board for two years. What she likes most about serving on the board are the connections she has made with other board members and community members. Knowing she is part of a group that shares her ideas and commitment to early education for young children is important to her, and getting to network with parents, co-workers, and friends is an added benefit.

If you’d like to know more about becoming involved in a VAEYC leadership position, please contact Melissa Riegel-Garrett.
